Sean Penn is in Ukraine. The American actor is in the invaded country shooting a documentary about the armed conflict he has with Russia, as confirmed by the Office of the President of Ukraine last thursday via Facebook.
“The director came to Kiev specially to record all the events that are currently taking place in Ukraine and tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country. Sean Penn is among those supporting Ukraine today. Our country is grateful to him for such a display of courage and honesty,” the translated statement read.
Penn’s documentary is produced by Vice studios in association with Vice World News and Endeavor Contentand Penn had visited the country several times in 2021 for preparations.
“Sean Penn shows courage that many others lack, including Western politicians. The more such people there are in our country now, true friends of Ukraine who support the struggle for freedom, the sooner it will be possible to stop Russia’s treacherous attack,” the statement continued.
Penn’s bravery is nothing new, as the actor is known for straying into hostile territory, such as when interviewed Chapo Guzman in October 2015 for Rolling Stone magazine or when created ‘I will say your name’ in the official section of Cannes in 2016 (arguably his most dangerous experience).
Penn has also always been distinguished by its Humanitarian workparticipate in search and rescue efforts in New Orleans in 2015 after the Hurricane Katrina and collaborate in the reconstruction of Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, events which are reflected in the 2020 documentary ‘Citizen Penn‘.
